The Outback Armour ranges
Performance
Outback Armour's core twin tube nitrogen gas shocks and struts. Most kits use a 60mm body with a 36mm or 40mm high flow piston and an 18mm hard chromed rod. Sold as front and rear kits that pair with Trail, Comfort or Expedition spring levels.
For: Everyday drivers and weekend tourers who want a quality lift and better ride than factory without paying for adjustability.
Digressive
Larger 65mm twin tube shocks with a 40mm digressive valved piston, foam cell and synthetic oil. Built to stay controlled and run cooler on corrugations and long dirt roads.
For: Tourers who spend real time on outback corrugations and want firm control with a comfortable ride.
Adjustable Internal Bypass
Twin tube shocks (mostly 65mm body, 40mm or 45mm piston) with an internal bypass and 20 plus external adjustment settings, so damping can be changed for load and terrain. Includes assembled HD coil-overs for some models.
For: Owners whose load changes a lot, such as caravan towing one week and empty the next, or anyone who likes to fine tune ride.
High Pressure
Serviceable 57mm monotube shocks with a 50mm piston and 20mm rod, some with a 52mm piggyback reservoir. High pressure gas for fade resistance.
For: Drivers wanting a premium, rebuildable monotube for hard touring with light to moderate loads.
Performance (Light)
A lighter valved version of the Performance twin tube (65mm body, 40mm piston) for vehicles that carry little weight. Only a few vehicles are listed.
For: Lightly loaded vehicles where ride comfort matters more than load carrying.
5 years, unlimited km on shocks, struts, springs, U-bolts and shackles (bushes 1 year). Lifts over 50 mm are excluded.

Prices are Outback Armour's published RRPs, checked 21 October 2026. Outback Armour sells front and rear kits separately; we've paired them by range and spring level. Fitting, wheel alignment and any certification are quoted for your vehicle.
Spring rates, explained
The springs in your kit are chosen for the weight you carry, not just the lift. Get them right and the ute sits level, rides well and keeps its lift. Get them wrong and it either sags or rides like a cart.
Front coils
Rated by the weight on the front: mainly your bar and winch.
- 0 to 50 kg: no bar, or a light alloy bar
- 50 to 100 kg: a steel bull bar
- 100 to 150 kg: steel bar plus winch and lights
Rear springs
Rated by the constant load in the back: canopy, drawers, water, fridge and gear.
- Trail (0 to 50 kg): empty tray, daily driving
- Expedition (about 150 to 400 kg): canopy or touring gear
- HD and XHD (about 300 to 850 kg): heavy canopy builds, tradie loads, long range touring
Linear or progressive
A linear spring gets firmer at a steady rate. A progressive spring starts soft and firms up as it compresses, so it rides well empty and still holds a load. Leaf packs are listed by their main and secondary leaves.
Not sure which load fits you? Tell us what's on the car and what you carry, and we'll pick the springs. If your build is heavy, we'll also check it against your GVM.

Questions
How much can I lift my 4WD in Queensland without certification?
Up to 75 mm in total, made up of no more than 50 mm from suspension and no more than 25 mm from larger tyres. Body lift blocks are not allowed without certification. This applies to 4WD type vehicles in ADR categories MC, NA and NB1, and the vehicle must still meet every other vehicle standard.
Does it matter if my vehicle has electronic stability control (ESC)?
Not for the lift limit. TMR's current Minor Modifications information sheet (February 2026) treats vehicles with and without ESC the same, so the 75 mm limit applies to both. ESC must still work as intended after any change to ride height or GVM, and where certification is needed the Approved Person must hold evidence of that.
How do bigger tyres count towards the lift?
TMR counts tyre lift as half the increase in tyre diameter, so a tyre 50 mm larger in diameter adds 25 mm of lift. For MC, NA and NB1 vehicles an alternative tyre can be up to 50 mm larger in overall diameter than any size the manufacturer lists for that model. Speedometer accuracy must be maintained.
What if I want more than 75 mm of lift?
A lift of up to 150 mm is allowed with certification by a Queensland Approved Person. The 150 mm can be made up of up to 100 mm suspension, 25 mm tyres and 50 mm body blocks. Suspension changes beyond the minor limits are complex modifications that must follow a Queensland approved modification code.
Will a lift kit void my new car warranty?
Not automatically. The manufacturer can still refuse a claim if the modification caused the fault, and the factory warranty does not cover aftermarket parts. Those parts carry their maker's warranty instead, for example 4 years/unlimited km recreational on Tough Dog Foam Cell and adjustable shocks, 5 years/unlimited km on Outback Armour shocks and springs, and 2 years or 40,000 km on Pedders lift kits.
Do I need to tell my insurer about a lift kit?
Yes. The Australian Automotive Aftermarket Association recommends telling your insurer about any modification. Check your policy wording, as undisclosed modifications can affect a claim.
Will a lift affect ESC, adaptive suspension or other factory systems?
It can. TMR requires ESC to keep working as intended after a ride height change. Some vehicles also lose factory features when the shocks are replaced; Tough Dog notes the LandCruiser 300 Sahara ZX's Adaptive Variable Suspension is lost when its shocks are fitted. We check what applies to your model before quoting.
Do I need upper control arms with a lift?
Often not for a lift of 50 mm or less. Tough Dog warns that fitting upper control arms to vehicles lifted more than 50 mm may lead to premature ball joint failure, and Outback Armour's upper control arm warranty applies where the lift does not exceed 50 mm. Larger lifts can need correction parts, which is one reason they need certification.
